History

Peg and Pat have been performing together since their kindergarten days back on the East Side of St. Paul, where they first collaborated on the unforgettable reading of "I'm a Little Teapot." John and Pat met in high school, and their musical abilities grew several years later when they began sitting around John's basement playing 'Battle of the Flaming Leads.' They asked Peg to start singing with them because she had a nice voice, a great ear for harmony, and knew lots of people who needed music at their weddings. Brian and Pat became relatives and friends in the late 60s, but Brian didn't join the group for quite some time because, well, he was just too short and was't all that interested in guitar yet. But, as you'll see when you hear Spruce Top, he caught up -- and then some. Now the four have woven their wide range of musical interests and skills into a repertoire and performance style that just invites you to sit, relax and be stimulated (simultaneously -- honest!);the way you'd respond to an engaging conversation or terrific book. You can let the harmony, the stories, and the putzing around just take your stressed out soul on a little trip to someplace comfortable and interesting. One does what one can.
